Skagit Valley College Men's Basketball Coach Brock Veltri has announced the signing of Marquis Gurske to a national letters of intent for the 2016-17 academic year.

Marquis, a freshman from Rainer Beach high school, is a strong physical 6’3 wing who has the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. He is skilled enough with the ball to play any of the perimeter positions on offense. But he is athletic and strong enough to guard a 1-4 on the defensive end of the court.

“We are thrilled to have Marquis join our program” said Head Basketball Coach Brock Veltri. “Marquis is a total team player that does whatever needs to be done on the court to help his team get the win.” This can best be seen in his stats from his high school career. Marquis led Rainer Beach in rebounds per game for both the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons. He also averaged a double-double during this past season’s state tournament where he helped lead Beach to the 3A State Championship.

Marquis was a four-year member of the varsity basketball team in high school. Capping his high school career with a state title in 2016. He was also an All-Metro-League player for the Rainier Beach baseball team his senior year. Originally from Bremerton, Washington, Marquis is the son of Michael and Connie Gurske.
