Usually, Miah Davis is up in the morning before his son.
But not Friday.
And not with the news that came to light around town.
Even with No. 1 national recruit Tyran Stokes across the water in Seattle, it was junior guard Jalen Davis who racked up one of the state’s best postseason boys basketball honors: 2025-26 Gatorade state player of the year.
“He woke me up — and he’s usually not up that early,” said Miah Davis, also the Knights’ coach. “He said, ‘Dad, is this real, is this true?’”
Also a member of VarsityWA’s all-classification all-state first team, Davis averaged 30.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in leading Bremerton to back-to-back WIAA Class 2A championships.
Still, with Stokes — who transferred to Rainier Beach in November from California — around, many figured it was a forgone conclusion the top prospect would nab that award.
Not so fast.
Miah Davis had his own high-profile ace in the hole contribute in the application process — alumnus Marvin Williams, a former Gatorade state MVP and McDonald’s All-American who played in the NBA.
Williams wrote a letter of recommendation on Jalen Davis’ behalf.
“They have a good relationship,” Miah Davis said. |
