BREMERTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED
GATORADE WASHINGTON BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
CHICAGO (March 20, 2026) — In its 41st year celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Jalen Davis of Bremerton High School is the 2025-26 Gatorade Washington Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for
their excellence in sport, academics and community. The award recognizes Davis as Washington’s best high school boys
basketball player, and he joins an elite legacy that spans professional athletes and coaches to CEOs, such as Jayson
Tatum (2015-16, Chaminade College Preparatory School, MO), Cooper Flagg (2023-24, Montverde Academy, FL) and
Cameron Boozer (2022-23 & 2024-25, Christopher Columbus High School, FL).
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound junior guard led the Knights to a 26-2 record and their second consecutive Class 2A state
championship this past season. Davis averaged 31.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 5.2 assists while shooting 63.9
percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. He also starred in Bremerton’s playoff run, hitting the
overtime buzzer-beater to beat Columbia River, 55-54, in the state semifinals and sinking the game-winning free throws to
beat R.A. Long, 45-43, in the championship. A two-time Olympic League MVP, he’s ranked as the No. 15 prospect in the
Class of 2027 by 247Sports.
Davis has volunteered locally as part of two backpack giveaways that benefited over 300 families in Kitsap County. He has
also served as the co-President of Commit 360’s Student-Athlete Mental and Physical Education program in Bremerton for
the last six years. “I’ve never seen a player like Jalen Davis and I’ve been coaching for 50 years,” said Larry Gallagher, a
Black Hills High School assistant coach. “I’ve coached [former 15-year NBA forward] Marvin Williams. I’ve coached against [Utah Jazz forward] Kevin Love and [Boston Celtics guard] Payton Pritchard. Jalen Davis is the best player I’ve ever seen play. He’s the total package. He’s a coach’s dream to have on the floor in every situation. I’m sure his teammates love playing with him because they know he’s going to do the right things at the right time. I can’t say enough good things about him. Sometimes, you don’t even notice he scores 35 points until you look at the scoreboard. Ball skills, passing skills, leadership, those are all great qualities and he has them. That’s what you look for in a player of the year.”
Davis has maintained a 3.67 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one state winner from each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., in 12 different sports: football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls track & field. In total, 610 high school athletes are honored each year. From the pool of state winners, one national winner is selected in each of the 12 sports. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the winners in each sport.
As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to
donate to a social impact partner. To date, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has provided more than $6.4 million in
grants to winners across more than 2,200 organizations.
