Team work and determined playing won decisive victories for Union boys’ and girls’ basketball teams when they met Muran school boys’ and the Northern Pacific girls respectively last night at the high school gymnasiun. The score for the boys’ game was 28 to 15 while the girls’ won 19 to 7. It was the best game the boys have played this season. Their shots were truer, their skill in avoiding their opponents guards was greater, and they had better team work than in any of the preceding games. The Northern Pacific girls have a team composed of girls who have had wide experience, many of them having been high school stars before they finished and began work for to Railway company. It is expected that it will be the hardest game of the season for Unions girls. |
The lineup was Erwin Miller, center; Richard Hall and Phil Hudson, forwards and Arthur Waaga and Harold Hughes, guards. Although the Northern Pacific girls’ eam was made up of more mature girls, they were without cooperation in their team play and Union maintained a big lead throughout the game. Almost the entire squad with an entire substitute team were played. The girls’ lineup was: Evelyn Aldrich, jumping center; Dorothy Rudolph, side center; Tina Bailey and Edna Robinson, forwards; and Jennie Kenyon and Ruth Ring, guards. Substitutes playing during the second half were: Dorothy Champlin, and Hanna Ishigammi, center; Margaret Kenyon and Elleen Betty, guards. Miss Noella Gendron and Miss Tarr of Seattle exchanged places as referee and umpire during the two halves of the girls’ game.
