BELFAIR – The Bremerton Knights overwhelmed the North Mason Bulldogs in a 95-46 blowout to gain momentum for Tuesday’s big showdown with the Bainbridge Spartans.
It was Bainbridge who stunned Bremerton back in December with a 63-61 upset win that sent the Knights into a three game losing streak that ended the 2024 calendar year.
Now the Knights look to get even and get control of the Olympic League as the post season approaches.
“This was a game we had to get out of the way so we could bring the momentum when we play Bainbridge,” said sophomore guard Enoch Taylor.
“It was very important,” said Bremerton coach Miah Davis of Tuesday’s big matchup. “We stressed that yesterday about our level of play, imposing our will on opponents, so we can figure out that inner feeling of what that competitive nature feels like.”
Bainbridge plays Bremerton at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Les Eathorne Gym.
Friday night’s win over the Bulldogs was pretty much like their meeting in December, when they routed North Mason 97-35.
Bremerton opened up a 30-10 lead after one quarter, with Jalen Davis scoring 10 points in the quarter. The Knights led 48-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Bremerton extended the lead to 65-25 midway through on a lay up by Jaydon Turner to trigger the mercy clock. Unfortunately, he taunted a North Mason player after the basket and was called for a technical foul. He sat for the rest of the game after that
“Just a matter of players being too excited,” Davis pointed out. “He learned his lesson. That’s life.”
Up until that technical foul, Turner had started the game and played well for the Knights.
“He’s still learning the way. I’m always teaching them to play the right way, and playing the right way isn’t always having the ball. Set a pick, make the extra pass, play defense, and make the game easy not only for yourself but for everyone else. He’s learning in a good way because he’s in the right surroundings.”
Taylor led the Knights with 26 points, including four 3-pointers.
“I was feeling good,” Taylor said. “I didn’t score too much the last game, so I had to pick it up.”
Jalen Davis added 19 points and dished out seven assists for the Knights, and Frank Allen added 16 points. Aaron Matthews also dished out seven assists and had four points.
The blowout win also allowed the Knights to play its bench extensively in the final quarter. Jay Beehan, Mark Lomuda, Damon Leggins, Tony Medina, and Cooper Stevenson finished out the win for Bremerton.
“When I was playing,” said coach Davis, “I remember coach Lindberg telling me to get those guys ample playing time as well. AS much as the starting five, those other five guys play a huge part in the success of the team in practice. We try to reward them with playing time at the end of the day.” E.
