Inside a cold Les Eathorne Gym, the Bremerton Lady Knights continued a recent run of hot play that got them their third win in four games.
Coming off an emotional Senior Night win on Friday night over Bainbridge, the Knights returned less than 24 hours later to defeat a scrappy Stadium Tigers squad 52-42 in a non-league contest.
“We get motivated by our full court press,” said Bremerton coach Nancy Harris. “so its been motivating our girls. It’s been a success, and that success has increased their productivity.”
The Knights won despite suiting up only seven players, and lost two of them in the fourth quarter against the Tigers.
Attiana Cabato fell down hard on a foul midway through the fourth quarter, and had to be helped off the court with a sore knee. Cabato was the Knights’ leading scorer with 16 points and had eight steals before she left the game.
“She’ll fight through it.” Harris said of Cabato.
Near the end of the game, Makaela Robinson fell and hurt her elbow, but was able to walk off the court under own power. Both players are expected to play Tuesday night against North Kitsap.
Promise Bell was injured the night before against Bainbridge, and was in street clothes. Her status is up in the air.
Though the Knights only had seven suited up, they kept it together and fought for every point and rebound.
“I think it’s just working with the team, and everyone having their backs,” said senior post Tulip Carter. “We all stepped up and we all filled our roles.”
As for the game on the court, the Knights came fast but found themselves behind at halftime 28-22. But in the second half, they took command, outscoring the Tigers 30-14 in the half. Carter had 20 rebounds to go with 10 points, providing an inside presence underneath the basket with Heaven Thomas (11 rebounds, 9 points) that the Tigers couldn’t counter.
“She’s a superstar who stepped up and she couldn’t have stepped up at a better time,” Harris said of Carter.
The Knights hope to keep their hot streak going with the final two games of the season against North Kitsap and Kingston.
