The Bremerton Knights concluded a five game gauntlet over six days with a big win over its biggest rival.
The Knights took down the visiting Olympic Trojans 58-50 in the Eathorne Gym, keeping alive its chances at the post season.
“I believe we’re playing a lot better,” said Bremerton coach Miah Davis. “We came out with a lack of energy, because it was an emotional roller coaster last night. But tonight, we did our job, we wanted to keep ourselves in the conversation of a playoff run. That’s what we accomplished. We got to take care of business on Friday, and hopefully, next week, things will fall into place.”
For the second game in a row, the Knights got 30 points from senior guard Samuel Tucker. He made13 of 24 field goals, including a trio of three pointers.
But by no means was it a one man show.
“I think you have to give kudos to his teammates,”, Davis said. “They’re looking for him, they know he carried them the last game. That’s speaks volumes, players are understanding what he can do, and are looking for him. that’s what a team does. Some guys need the ball, some guys don’t. When you put that ego aside, good things can happen.”
Dyon Sellers came off the bench in the second half and scored eight points, six coming in the fourth quarter as the Knights held off a Trojans rush, and Trenton Bullmer added nine points and four assists.
“I told them at the beginning of the season, this will not be a one or two man team, its going to be a group effort, They started to buy into that. As coaches, we wanted to make sure by the end of the season, they buy into what you started.”
The game was the conclusion of a five game stretch in six days, where they made up games that were postponed from December and sandwiched in between games that were already scheduled. Starting on January 19, they opened with a win over North Mason, followed by a pair of non-league losses to Shelton and Lake Stevens. After a Sunday off, the Knights dropped a non-league heartbreaker to Central Kitsap, before coming back into league play against Olympic.
Now 4-7 in Olympic League play and 4-11 overall, the Knights play up at Bainbridge Island on Friday night, their post season hopes still alive.
“You can’t stop now. This is the time where adversity hits. We got some big games coming up. Everything is going to be magnified in practice, just because you win, it doesn’t mean it’s finished until that horn hits.”
