Knights fall to 0-6

Stadium 59, Bremerton 47 – The homestanding Knights, now 0-6, were shivering cold from the field in the first half, especially from three-point land, and fell way behind, 30-17. Bremerton hit just seven of 30 first-half shots, and only one of 12 from treyland.

So first-year coach Larry Gallagher made a pointed adjustment.

“We limited ourselves to two-point shots the second half,” said Gallagher. “We had a tendency to put the ball up way to early so we as a coaching staff decided we needed to be a little more patient on offense and look for some inside shot the third quarter.”

And it worked as six different Knights scored and they outscored the visiting Tigers 18-12. But the Tigers regrouped and pulled away in the final quarter to keep the Knights winless.

Casey Lindberg led the Knights with 22 points, 15 of them in the second half.

The Knights are now off until Dec. 30th. But that doesn’t mean the Knights won’t work on their game, especially the fundamentals. Gallagher had his players back on the court this morning at 10 o’clock.

“We need to work on some things,” Gallagher said. “We need to be able to run our offense a little better.”

Was it frustrating to not have his first victory as a head coach, he was asked.

“I’m not so frustrated for me as I am for the kids, because I know how hard they work,” Gallagher said. “We have some real neat kids who are good athletes. They are just neat kids to be around, and I guess that is what is so frustrating. They are doing what we ask them to do. They are competitors and they like to win, too. But success is going to come to them, and in a lot of different ways than just wins.”
