East Gain Revenge on Bothell

SKIDDING INTO POSSESION - Bob Richardson of East comes to a screeching stop after gaining possession of the ball late in the fourth quarter of contest last night at East. Richardson grabbed the ball just in time as Bothell's Ed Johnson was ready to pounce on it. Knights retaliated for an earlier loss to Cougars with a 57-48 victory.

Revenge was sweet and victory decisive for hot shooting East Knights as they ran to a 57-48 triumph over Bothell Cougars here last night.

Torrid Knight second quarter broke open the contest and pave the way for the retaliation win over Cougars who dumped East, 49-38, in their initial meeting in Bothell earlier in the campaign.

Victory was the third in seven outings for East.

DURING THE SECOND period only two Knights shots failed to fall through the hoop as they hit seven of nine two pointers and two of two from the foul line. Cougars could make but four of 13 from the field and dropped from a three point, 11-14, deficit at the close of the first panel to trail, 30-19, at the end of the half.

Forces of coach Les Eathorne were never headed after the second period and visitors from Bothell could only narrow the gap by two points in the final semester.

Four Knights reached double figures in the fine team effort as only one of the squad in at tip-off shot less than 50 per cent from the floor. Jim Tienhaara paced the attach with 15 counters and hit five of 11 two pointers and five of six from the charity strip. Mike Holen and Greg Morrison followed Tienhaara, each twining 12 while John Tracy pumped in 10.

BALLET UNDER BASKET - East guard Greg Morrison scores on fast-break lay-in during second half action against Bothell here last night. Trying to halt Morrison is Cougar Al Strand (25), although the pair appear to be dancing under the basket. The Knight tallied 12 points in East's 57-48 non-league conquest.

KNIGHTS GOT OFF to a slow start and found themselves trailing, 4-1, with 6:39 yet to play. From here they put their press and fast moving brand of ball into high gear, running up 10 straight points before Bothell could score a points. When visitors did find the range they were down by seven.

East used the foul line to good advantage in the first period as they put through six of seven while adding four of eight field goals.

Fine shooting ability of Knights suffered a little in the third stanza when they meshed five of 14. They had come up with 11 of 17 in the opening half.

BIG JIM ASHE led Cougars and all scorers with 18 points. The lanky 6-5 junior pivot was in foul trouble throughout much of the fray, picking up his third with 3:44 to play in the second quarter. He played the remainder of the contest and only was called for one more personal.

East zone press was again effective in paving the way to triumph as the tight checking Knights caused many Bothell miscues that resulted in points for Knights.

Winners hooped a fine 22 of 41 from the floor for a 53.7 percnetage. Cougars could manage but 21 of 64, 32.8 per cent.

KNIGHTS had a chance to widen the gap in the final period but couldn't connect on charity tosses, missing six, two one and one.

East returns to AA tourney trail Friday, hosting South Kitsap. Knights are 2-0 along the path to the state tournament while SK stands 1-1.
