WHS Boys Varsity Head Coach (1962 to ?)

 

Taught Mathematics at West High

 

"SMITH, 43, has been in the Bremerton school system 17 years. A graduate of Western Washingtn, he taught four years a Tumwater where he coached also, He now holds a master's degree from the University of Washington.

 

The new head high school coach started here at Dewey when it was a junior high school. When the intermediate school change was made and athletics dropped at Dewey, Smith continued to coach boys team in the city league, as many as five in one season, and piloted the Apprectices in the naval shipyard for some time. As frosh coach at West the past two years, his team won the county freshman basketball league title a year ago and his football teams earned one championship and one second-place finish.

 

Smith and his wife Lucille have three children, Mrs. Wayne (Janet) Christoffer of Bremerton; Susan, 14, freshman at West and Stephen, 10, in the fifth grade at Crown Hill school. Family resides at 1553 Marine drive." (The Bremerton Sun - 1962, Nov. 24)
