Wilson Races To Win Over W. Bremerton
RESULTS LAST NIGHT Stadium 62, Mount Tahoma 56 Wilson 77, West Bremerton 59 --------------- By KANNY GREEN Wilson, a pre-season Capital League favorite, finally showed why last night.
The Rams displayed their biggest offensive effort of the season at Wilson by defeating West Bremerton, 77-59.
The victory broke a two-game losing streak and gave the winners a 3-3 mark in the Capital loop.
The Rams started out quickly as they connected on their first six shots from the field. Led by J.D. Tamerius the Wildcats battled back to narrow the count to 21-18 at the period’s end.
Tamerius Hits Tamerius hit three buckets early in the second quarter and center Dan Shedwin added a pair as West knotted the count at 29-29 with 3:30 remaining in the stanze.
The two teams exchanged baskets the remainder of the period and West left the floor with a 39-37 edge at halftime.
The third quarter proved the difference in the contest as Wilson outscored the visitors 24-9.
Mainstays Bill Parker and Gary Birchler paced the Wilson uprising. The score was tied four times in the first three minutes of the third quarter.
Wilson jumped on top to stay with 4:50 remaining when Parker hit a lay-in to give Wilson a 47-45 edge. From there they hiked the advantage to 53-46 with 3:15 left in the quarter and 61-48 at the end of the quarter. Birchler paced the Northenders with eight points in the final four minutes of the period.
Rebounding Strength Wilson continued to pull away in the last quarter largely on the strength of superior rebounding strength by Birchler, Jeff Hale and Jim McKean.
Wilson employed an effective sagging zone defense in the second half, causing the visitors to shoot more from outside and cause numerous passing miscues.
Wilson outrebounded West 52 to 39. The Rams shot 48 per cent from the field on 34 for 73. West Bremerton finished with 38 per cent on 23 for 60.
Birchler and Parker led the winners with 23 and 18 points respectively. Shedwin hit 16, Tamerius had 14 and Dicks added 13 for the Wildcats.
