| Knights Rap Shelton For First Win, 60-40 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

East Knights swing from a lopsided pasting of the Shelton Highclimbers Saturday night in the Olympic league class AA tournament trail race into a return non-league clash at Lincoln of Tacoma tomorrow night.
The Knight-Abe affair is one of four contests tomorrow on the local front. West Wildcats invade the Stadium Tiger den at Tacoma in a Capital league contest without post-season bearing. North Kitsap Vikings host the Bainbridge Spartans and the Port Angeles Roughriders entertain the Port Townsend Redskins in a pair of out-of-class Olympic league frays.
ALL - OLYMPIC games will start at 7:30 after 6 p.m. junior varsity preliminaries. Capital league varsity starting time is 8 p.m., affecting both East and West, with prelims at 6:30.
Knights scored their first triumph of the current campaign Saturday at Shelton, getting double figures out of three starters and good defensive work out of all hands.
Forward Jim Tienhaara paced the Knight attack with 17 points, 14 in the first half when East had taken a 33-14 intermission advantage.
Center Darryl Fry tallied 12 and guard Greg Morrison 10 in major support of Tienhaara's total. Fry had seven in the first half and completed his scoring in the third period before giving way to a reserve.
KNIGHT DEFENSES allowed only three field goals in each of the first two quarters. The three in the second quarter all were by Shelton star guard Bill Sloan who ended up with eight points all night, tying with guard mate Mike Carte and center Bill Smith as 'Climber individual point leader.
Chart of the first nine Knights showed them hitting 19 of 58 field goal attempts for 33 per cent. However, Tienhaara and Fry combined for 11 goals in 16 tries between them - almost 69 per cent.
At the friee throw line, Knights talled on 22 of 38 chances, 58 per cent, to Shelton's six for 15, 40 per cent.
Although it was the first win for the Knights this season in four games, it was the first really important test. The tilt was the first Olympic league game and the first class AA tourney trail affair for either quintet.
Knights will be seeking vengeance at Lincoln for a close loss here Friday night when only a sudden cold shooting spell cost the Knights a conquest.
